TM Projects is pleased to announce lingua franca, an upcoming exhibition which blurs boundaries between fashion, art, and performance. The show will inaugurate the programme of TM Projects, a London-based art gallery and cultural platform which fosters artistic exchange and cross-disciplinary collaborations. The preview of the exhibition will take place on March 7 in London. It is a one-day event anticipating the full-scale show opening later in the year ‘24 with the addition of works by Phil Hale.

lingua franca originates in the name of a new collection by Adam.É, a menswear fashion brand founded by Adam Elyassé. Adam Elyassé design philosophy is deeply rooted in the dynamic between power and pain القوة والألم which often shapes the human condition. This conceptual framework reflects his personal journey, informed by the unique trajectory of his life. In his work, Moroccan craft and culture are merged with technologically advanced design hand-sewn in East London. Having recently won Fashion Trust Arabia Debut Talent award, Adam continues to explore the dichotomy of his background and shows his award-winning work in London.

Selected pieces from the collection will be shown in dialogue with work by Stephen Akpo, a British multidisciplinary artist who encapsulates a broad process of self-healing through expressive paintings and drawings. His artistic journey originates in profound experiences of grief and loss, melancholic introspection and unwavering optimism, mirroring the dualistic nature of experience itself. In his deeply personal work, Akpo addresses his own traumas and losses as well as the imperfect nature of the world around him, however expressing a sense of hope and resilience. Akpo is currently a resident of the Sarabande Foundation established by Lee Alexander McQueen. His work was shown in the Royal Academy of Arts, and Sarabande Foundation, London, UK, among other places.

The preview will feature an experimental dance performance by Jonny Vieco, a London-based choreographer and dancer. Growing up immersed in street dance culture, Jonny developed his signature style by blending it with contemporary dance. With a deep understanding of the power of movement and its ability to convey emotion and tell a story, Jonny creates performances that are both visually stunning and emotionally resonant. His work was featured in The Greatest Magazine, Vogue Italia, Greentea Peng, Sundance award winning short film, and more.

Reflecting on various recent events in the world and their personal histories, the fashion designer and the visual artists coalesce to ruminate on the current human experience. The expressive aesthetics of the show conveys a feeling of uncertainty and apprehension which resolves in artistic creations. Coming from different social backgrounds, places of origins, and generations, the artists use different sources of inspiration and reflection to inevitably intertwine and create a vision encompassing the world of fashion, art, and performance.
